Human papillomavirus (HPV)

HPV is the most common sexually transmitted infection. In men it often causes no symptoms, but it can cause warts and, less often, other lesions.

Signs and symptoms

  • Warts or lesions on the penis, scrotum or anal area
  • Changes in the genital skin
  • An HPV diagnosis in your partner

When to see a doctor

If you notice lesions, if your partner has HPV, or if you want guidance on prevention and vaccination.

Diagnosis

Detailed clinical examination and, when needed, peniscopy or biopsy of the lesion.

Treatment
